Just google DIY Stripping Basket for a walk through DIYdoms latest and greatest! Here's a great idea: om/blog/2011/07/cf-design-line-pallet/
This is one I made for casting out of the front deck of my boat. Nothing more than a dish wash rubbermaid contanier with some golf tees epoxied in it. Tptal cost of about $4/$5. Obviously a boat only type basket, but works great for that purpose.

I love the idea of using golf tees. When I was thinking of building my own basket I couldn't come up with anything that would work well as cones. I never thought of using tees.

I've posted this here often enough that's it's probably getting old
but I used wire nuts in my basket. They've held up for around 7-8 years at this point

I bought a basket from Wallmart and used those plastic tye straps in the bottom. Drill two holes and loop the tye straps through them and cut them to length. The work really well with a littel flex and won't break off. Cost $6 total. But I bought a Mangrove that I use now and really like it for the surf.

One thing I love about the Orvis basket, it has those cut-outs on the sides so I can rest my fly rod on my stripping basket. and free my hands so I can take a photo, open my fly box, etc. To be able to do that is very helpful.
