Lest anyone think Tenkara ...
... is limited to smaller streams, warm weather, and dries or wet flies, how about some nymph fishing on Upper Rock Creek MT in late January ?? Admittedly, we had 50F temps and no wind, and no ice in the water, but winter is winter.

The Tenkara 11' Iwana was rigged with a 12' 6" thread furled line / leader tipped with about 4' of 4X tippet to the lead fly, a tungsten beadhead copper bob, with another 4' of tippet to a t.c.t.k. Used a small thingamabobber positioned about 6" from the end of the leader for an indicator. The Iwana handled the set up just fine.

Most of the fishies took the t.c.t.k. Had a triple comprised of a dozen or so whitefish, four brown trouts, and around seven cutts. Several fishes did take the bigger nymph.

All in all a very successful and rewarding day on the water. Since Friday, our temps dropped dramatically with negative F overnight lows and daytime highs in the single digits or low teens F. Might be a while before there is decent water to fish again ??

Ayu Grand Slam on Rock Creek
Fished the Ayu with the TenkaraUSA furled line rigged with a small thingamabobber, about 6' of 4X fluoro tippet, and fished a couple different nymphs. This set up handles very nicely. And the results aren't all that shabby, either.

Had just the one rainbow in hand, but also landed four browns, five cutthroat, and half a dozen whitefish. Lost several really nice trout and a few whitefish.
