Pet Peeve
I was looking at a magazine the other day and there was at least 4 picture's of guy's with fish. All with there rod's stuck in there face. Now I don't know about you but I don't think the cork on a fly rod is all that clean. And these people seem to like the taste of them.
Let me see they go into the bushes to do there thing come out and grabe there rod's and off they go. Don't think they washed there hand's? Maybe it is a hero thing? All I can say I am glad it isn't me and what if the rod was borrowed?
Stick the dam thing under your arm. Ron

 I don't know if you are the only one with this pet peeve LMAO These Pro's sure seem to make us look funny sometimes. I prefer not to get the cork anywhere near my mouth ate the taste of what ever my hands have held which is usually a live fish

Ron,
THAT :P is your pet peeve? Boy do you have a high tolerance for 'peeves'

Yum ! fish slime, fly floatant, blood and guts from the occasional bonker, sweat.Sounds just like what I want to snack on.

 Well people, I can honestly tell you the taste of cork is nothing. I have floated a certain portion of the Potomac river past a well known sewage discharge area, had my line break, tied a new knot and without giving it a second thought, Yup, stuck the line in my mouth to wet the line before I cinched the knot.
The second thought came after that.

Allen- Just got to laughing with some other guides down at the local fly shop at these pictures. I think people look at other's doing it and think it looks cool LOL. Same as some years back (I think you will remember) all the pictures in the fly fishing rags had people with bright red and other color's of shirt's on while fishing. Well they were set up shot's made to make the picture look good in bright color. But all the people that read the magazine's ran out and bought a lot of those bright shirt's. Didn't matter if they spooked every fish in the river they looked cool. Shop's sold a lot of those shirt's to people and never said a word LOL. You don't see that as much anymore. You think they learned something ? LOL
Rookie- Anyone can forget themselves now and then But those picture's were taken that way because those people think it looks cool. I guided for many years and never took a picture with anyone with there rod in the mouth. Never needed to and I took thousands of picture's of fish and fishermen over the years. But that is me I guess. Other's have different view's on this and other subject's like it LOL Ron

Hi Ron,
I'm not so worried about their hygene or the effect that it has on their health. I just think that it looks completely stupid. Then I remember that it could be far worse-----they could be holding the fish in their mouth. What could be better then trying to copy that osprey look for the fishing public? Take care. 8T :)

Bite This!
There was a fellow last year who lost his life from biting off a bit of nylon leader with his teeth and ingesting some bacteria from the river he was fishing in. I won't go into detail, the person and place is not as important as what happened to him in the end. All people have different tolerances and more than likely this is a very rare case and most people probably would have merely gotten very ill rather than the alternative that happened to this experienced long time fisherman. I have for years bitten the leader off....I now use the trusty nail clipper instead. I guess you could call me lucky?

I always thought that looked stupid. Not to mention all the teeth marks in the cork, that can't be good. I always set the rod down and then pick up the fish for a picture.
I remember those bright shirts. I always thought, wow, a target for bugs and bears. Maybe there's a few less anglers out there because of it. lol.
Jonezee, I never heard that one. I guess i'll start using my nippers more. YIKES!

At my age I value my teeth  and my health. It has never entered my head to hold the rod in my mouth and would never/have never bitten off a tippet/leader. Of course I smoke and like my whisky!
Hey a guy has to have some vices!!
