I learned something new today.

After tying for almost 60 years I learned something new today!
I was tying a special pattern with a small spun deer hair head.The hair was spun very tight so it almost looked like cork. Now I've always had a problen trimming a very smooth head with the double edged razor blade that everyone recommends. Always ended up with small corners and little gouges. As I finished the trimming I happened to notice the strip of sandpaper that I keep near my bench to smooth my finger tips. Bingo! The light went on and I tried lightly sanding the deer hair. I worked like a charm. Never again will I have those ugly heads!

Now I will be the only one with ugly hair heads.

If you are packing you hair really tight, you might want to try a fingernail file.

They work great for shaping!

You can get a whole bunch at the doller store, real cheap!

Nick, that's exactly what I do. I've been doing that for a long while now. I don't spin or stack very many deer hair heads anymore. A few but not as many. Works great for my Muddlers and hoppers. All I had to do was find the right light tan color foam to match the color of trimmed natural deer hair for standard Muddler and hopper patterns. I could use other colors if I want but the original pattern color works fine as is.

Now here is a golden opportunity for all those fly tying suppliers out there http://www.flyanglersonline.com/bb/smile.gif. If other Dremel tyers out there are like me, no way we could even hope to meet the large amounts and various sizes needed to meet demand but maybe some Dremel tyer(s) can.
