Nail polish
Hey all, I'm new to posting but have been reading for a while. On the fly of the week, Calcasieu Pig Boat, it mentions using nailpolish for the head. Does this give off any scent in the water? Is there such a thing as unscented??? my wife isn't around to ask, and she would think I was crazy if I started asking her about nail polish anyways.
thanks

Hi Ryjeff,
I use various epoxies, nail polishes
and the like. It does not seem to be a
problem. Once it sets up or dries, the
horrific odors seem to quickly go away.
Warm regards, Jim

The odors given off by nail polish is caused by the evaporation of the chemicals (naptha, ketones, etc.) which keeps it "wet." After the drying process only very trace amounts of a chemical odor remains, if you dry your flys in a well ventilated area odors are much less likely.
Best of all, any odors still present (unlikely when completely dry) on the flies don't bother the fish. http://www.flyanglersonline.com/bb/smile.gif

What you need to do when your wife comes home, is to take her hand and then gently suck and nibble her fingers or toes.....
If you can taste her nail varnish its no good. If you just taste her fingers or anything she has been sticking them in, its ok!!!! Works everytime for me..... LOL

Mick,
That might work. But I wouldn't recommend you then immediately jump up, grab her nail polish and head for the tying bench.

The only head cement that I or any of my friends use is Sally Hanson's hard as nails. Have never had a problem with any unwanted taste or order from the product.

Since I started sniffing them I've had to stop tying anything smaller than a 12. Those tiny ones kept getting stuck in my nose.
