Long body popper
I think I'm copying someone, I don't know who but I caught a glimpse that burned into a slick spot on my brain and this is the Alpha version. I'm thinking crappie would really go for it, but bass and bream also. Marabou tail, flip flop foam head with a woven Mylar body on a long shank hook, this one is what Eagle Claw, a good American company, sells as a No. 4 cricket hook.Attachment 15977

That bug is (was) promoted by the guy (Rayjeff?) that made (invented?) a material called Softex. It is a thick liquid that is applied to that mylar and mono web drying to a semi-hard layer creating a hollow body. Kewel bug....

Thanks for the info. I caught a glimpse some where recently and tied the one in the photo. I have tied several weighed versions for a friend who fishes black water creeks in south Mississippi, they have 3 BB's in the belly with a strip of foam on top to help insure the stay hook point up.

Uncle Jesse, That should work well. I tie lots of mylar minnows for bass and crappie when they're in the shallows. I think I'll tie up some of the poppers as well for this spring. I've attached a photo of a variation of this popper that I saw on one of the fly tying groups I'm a member of on Face Book. I thought I'd share it here in case some folks here might want to give it a try. This is not my pattern, just one I saw and really like so I plan on tying.

So interesting to see "variations"....especially "variations" with a "reason" ;-)

Jim, thanks for posting that, 'Web Popper' pattern. Very nice looking popper. Do you happen to know what the tail material is? Appears to be some type of fur.

I've contacted the man who tied the pattern and asked him. I'll share that as soon as he responds.

Thanks Jim. (FYI) I just saw a similar pattern on the Global Fly Fisher website called the, "Rattle.Bum" by Dron Lee form Malaysia.

The tail is made from Ice with some Badger fibers. I don't know the correct name for that pattern and only named it that so I could find it again in my files.
Best of luck
