The Cicadas Are Coming!

Here in Southwest Ohio we're on the cusp of the Brood X 17 year Cicada hatch. Really cool period where everything that swims, flies or crawls gets a tasty meal of the big bugs! Tied the examples below for the up coming madness!

Tied this version of "Carl's Cicada" with the following:

Hook - Targus 8089 #10 Bass 4X Wide (Hook measures out as a size 4 4XL)
Thread - Black 3/0 Uni
Body - 5 mm Craft Foam
Underwing - Rainbow Crystal Flash
Overwing - Congo Hair, White
Legs - Orange and Black Round Rubber Legs (large or medium work)

Nice video by Martyn White. I used a different hook and subbed Congo Hair for the Calf Tail overwing he uses.

No subtlety require for this presentation. The bigger the splat on the water the better! Definitely a 2X tippet kind of fly and given its size, really easy to see! Can't wait for the fun to begin!
