material help
I had a fly sent to me and I am trying to figure out the material used for the body.
It has a cylindral pyramide shape to a cone head. I think the under body is floss and the outer body looks like the ice cicles used on Christmas trees.
The fly came from Cabela's.
I could scan the fly and send a jpg to some one if that would help.

Rick,
Is it a surface fly or subsurface fly?
I was thinking it might be a surface slider when you said it had a cone shaped head or body.
Got to looking through Cabela's catalog. There's a subsurface Conehead Lite Brite Minnow fly that's similar to what you are talking about but I have no idea what the body material is just by looking at it.

It is a subsurface fly.

If I had to guess, Rick, I would say that it looks like Ice Dub or that Quick Descent Dubbing. A kind of sparkle dubbing. I think Cabela's sells it but I don't know who else does.

if it is the cabel's fly ( Conehead Lite Brite Minnow fly ) , then I believe that the recipie may be :
hook : ?
head : conehead
underbody: dubbing
overbody :mylar ribbon, with Lite bright and /or /crystal estaz showing between the wraps
tail : marabou
eyes : Spirit River 3-D eyes
A scan of the fly in question would be helpful. Good luck !
