Rotary Instructions
Does anybody know of a website or a book that can help me learn how to use a rotary vise?
I've just acquired a used Renzetti Traveler. Have never tied with a rotary before. Clamped it into my tying tray and suddenly realized that I have no idea how to use a rotary or a bobbin cradle. I've tried the search function here and also Google, but I seem to be using the wrong key words.
Any leads for instructions most gratefully welcomed. Thanks!

I don't have time to search for some instructions that I know must be on the Internet somewhere, yet on the other hand don't think this is so hard. There are four things to keep in mind IMHO and that is all. 1) Since you have a Renzetti there are fixed positions for the jaws re. center line of rotation. Place the hook in the jaws so that the shank of the hook is on or near the centerline of rotation. If it is REALLY off then you have to move the jaws (probably not). 2) The bobbin holder is situated so that when the thread is looped over it the thread comes STRAIGHT off the eye of the hook and over the bobbin holder. The bobbin holder is about 1"-2" from the eye of the hook. Place your thread here whenever you want to use the rotary feature. 3) There should be 2 adjusting nuts to set the tension on the rotation of the vise. You want to set the one closet to the post to allow for smooth rotation without undue pressure and yet without slippage. The adjustment further from the post is to lock this setting. 4) Practice by wrapping a thread on the hook in the usual fashion and tie in some material (floss or chenille). Wrap the thread to the eye and then PUT ON A HALF HITCH and place the bobbin over the cradle. Hold the material toward you and turn the crank of the vise up over the top and toward you (counter-clockwise when looking from the bobbin holder to the eye of the hook). The material should wrap on the shank in normal appearance and when you want to tie off you grasp the bobbin and proceed.
I am sure Hans or others will have prepared instructions, but this should get you started.

Norlander Co. sells a tape demonstrating the principles of rotary tying and their application in tying. Different vice, but same principles WELL demonstrated.

Hopefully, Al Beatty will jump in here. He has a video that I have with lots of tips. I understand he is nearing completion (?) of a book, too.

I'll second the Al Beatty video. Showed me many ways of using these vises that I would not have thought of without being shown.

Hi guys,
The video is available either VHS or DVD. The book is in the editing department at Amato Publishing. I don't have a publication date but expect it to be late 2006 or early 2007. Take care & ...

Thanks for the excellent help, folks! I'm usually pretty good at finding stuff via Google, but this one wasn't working for me. Now I have what I need to get started.
