Just purchased 9' 4 piece blank. How do you find the spline on the stiffer butt sections or doesn't matter? It is a moderate action blank.

Ed,
I spline my butt sections the same way I do the tip: That is to find a hard, flat surface, hold the blank section at 45 degrees and apply pressure to the middle of the blank. In most cases, the rod will automatically slip to its splined position (the outside of the curve is the spline). If the rod seems to like 2 different positions, get someont to try to rotate the rod in both positions. The position in which the rod is most difficult to rotate is its strongest spline.

Ed,
If you can't find it ,it doesn't matter.

May the fish that you catch always be larger than the hole in your net
Graphite rods do not have a spline, they have a spine!
I'll pass on to you the same simple advise I was given by JC on this same question....Just get it straight.....Strong advise for sure my rod casts like a dream...and is as straight as the proverbial arrow! http://www.flyanglersonline.com/bb/biggrin.gif
