My first wraps.
A while back I posted about wanting to try building rods. Jack Hise was kind enough to make me a deal on his rod building stuff.
I got it a few weeks ago and finally had time to work on my basement and made a spot for all of my fishing stuff.
This weekend, I hung some more lighting and set a few things up. I bought a rod kit to start with and tonight I made a few practice wraps.
There really is a learning curve to wrapping, but with some practice, I don't think it will be too frustrating.
I've noticed that I have trouble with:
Getting the beginning of the wrap to be tight.
Cutting the thread tag after I've used a thread loop to pull the tag underneath the wraps.
I'm not sure if there is a way to 'hide' threads that run underneat the wraps. Maybe finish will help hide that.
Here are my first three practice wraps. Left to right are first, second, and third. I used a point-and-shoot, so the images aren't great.

Good grief! Even doing a trim right off the bat! Looking good!
Gunna have to tell you how to do the knitting needle pretty quick!

After a little more practice, I tried my first snake guide today.
Here is my first attempt.

Brian, I am not one of the rod builders that frequent the board. I have 1 build years ago. Your practice wraps are looking really nice, I would be plenty happy with that.

I would say those are great for your first wraps. you should have seen mine years ago. gaps so big you could drive a truck through them.
