Fly Fishing For Vets
Saturday the 21st saw another great Fly Fishing for Vets day. The event was held at Pace's Ferry on the Chatahoochee river near Atlanta, Ga.
The weather (mid 70's with no rain), food (BBQ, baked beans, potato salad etc., Johnsonville Brats, Coke, etc.) and support for our veterans was outstanding.
The veterans were able to borrow waders, boots, rods etc. and paired with a mentor to fish the river. Other venues included fly casting instruction, a fly casting competition, and a silent auction to help fund future events.
Not sure of the numbers of participants, several hundred by my estimation. Everyone that I talked with had a great time.
BTW, Mike Popick of this board is one of the driving forces in the Fly Fishing for Vets.
Kudos to Mike and everyone who made this a special day.

The Georgia DNR stocked the area Sat AM with several thousand Rainbow and Brown trout. Heard that the average size of the Browns was about 16 inches.

The river was high and muddy to start, but the water level dropped and the water cleared.

Once again "Thanks" to everyone who volunteered to make this event happen and be such a success.

Although special dispensation is necessary for our wounded vets, it's nice to see there is something for all vets. Kudos to all involved.
