I was wondering that same thing myself Deeana because I got that same email on my rod business account today too. I had not heard anything at all about it, but it sure looks like maybe they are owned by the same company now from the way the contest and email is worded.
It'll be interesting to see if anyone here knows anything.
Steve
Nothing here, but the Ross sites is littered with 3M and SA logos and whatnots on their pages.
Field and Strream article about 3M acquiring Ross http://www.fieldandstream.com/blogs/...res-ross-reels
Good for whomever.
I haven't looked twice at a Ross reel since they discontinued the R-Series, San Miguels, and the Gunnisons.
This is a personal opinion and preference.
It is at least "interesting" - anyone else remember the buying spree SA went on a few years ago and bought up several fly fishing companies? Charlton reels was one of them - which they 'cut loose' about a year ago with the comment to the effect 'they make reels which are absolute jewels, they just isn't any profit margin in them.'
Wonder who else has been talking to SA?
Sept 2010????
wow...I feel Sooooo out of the loop! I didn't know that at all!
S.A. killed off some very good product lines like DB Dunn and J.W. Outfitters. I always wondered why they acquired them all. Those Charlton reels sell today for much more than original retail. I can't imagine there was no margin if Jack got back into the business with his excellent Mako reels.
S.A has discontinued their venerable System reels with the exception of the Concept reel packaged with their combos. Hopefully Ross will hang around as S.A.'s line of reels.
Aside from their fly lines, I pretty much look at Scientific Angler products as junk. They didn't used to be so bad. Just my opinion.
It was discussed on this forum when it was announced: http://www.flyanglersonline.com/bb/s...ght=Ross+reels
