I just bought a Ross Rhythm 1.5 to match a 8 1/2 4wt St. Croix SCV. I'm debating between SA GPX and the Rio Grande line. I haven't used either one before. Any suggestions/feedback on either of these?
Thanks,
Tony

I have the same reel with a Rio Selective Trout WF5. Paired with a Winston BIIx, it's a nice outfit.
Go with the GPX, i find the rio wears out in 20 to 40 days on the water. Altought the rio is a nice line, i find that the GPX will last more than 100 days on the water, and cast just as nice.
I really like the GPX - do not know anything about the rio lines
I've had both Rio and SA Gpx, and find the wear issues the same as what nick states... even their Rio Windcutter wears so that you are seeing and feeling the core half way through a season.
Thanks for all the feedback. Sounds like a small, but general, consensus. Since they are the same price with generally the same description (overweighted, all around lines), I'm sold!
What is this about Rio lines wearing out in 20 to 40 days of fishing? I want more details on that please as it sounds just plain wrong. I have never heard of any line doing that. And "seeing and feeling" the core half way through a season? Those are not opinions, those are accusations! Please, give me examples. If you have had this problem somebody needs to know about it. Trust me, Rio lines do not 'wear out' in 20 to 40 days of fishing. http://www.flyanglersonline.com/bb/smile.gif
My Rio lines haven't worn out either but then I make sure my guides and reels don't have sharpe edges and other issues that will wear any line out prematurely.
SA and Rio lines are very similiar these days in slickness and tapers. I have to give Rio the edge though on floatability. The entire line rides high in the water right out of the box... even the tip!
Glad to hear this Jackster. I only just bought the Rio Selective trout in WF4F and as yet it hasn't hit the water. It was highly recommended by a friend!
Hope it holds up as good as my SA lines.
Jeremy.
