IMO the Orvis Far and Fine 7'9" 5 wt is one of the best small crick rods ever conceived in the history of mankind. I use a TT 5 wt on mine.
Buzz should know for sure. Hou big are the fish you are going after and what size flies, and how big are these 'small springs'??
Just spent the last week fishing small spring fed streams in Missouri, and I used a 6' 3/4# boo, a 6'6" 2#, and a 7'6"5# for the little bit bigger streams. Had great results with each. For even smaller streams in South Dakota I'm building a 5'2#. All, of course, are personal preferences. For lines I like the triangle taper, the sylk, and just plain old 444, rod appropriate.
Guess I could add to it; usual flies are 18-28, dry, and fish up to 7#'s , maybe 26". Most would be in the 1-2#'s 16-22"'s. Good fun, these little streams out here!
Oh, and welcome to the Board! You'll like it here!!

noluck, welcome! Check out Global DorbeR in the sponsor section. They have a line of rods called the Little Streamer.

"Give me ambiguity or give me something else"
The streams are probably anywhere from 10' wide to 40' wide. But,the normal width is an average of 20'.
I have used 1/64 oz. maribou jigs and sometimes smaller jigs.Glo balls are also another type of lures used.16-8 size is common.
I have been wanting to try dry fly fishing all my life but, haven't made the jump.
Let me reinforce I am in no way a fly fishing expert.I can cast a fly fairly well and roll cast as well also.I have used mostly spinning equipment most of my days on the trout waters.
It just seems to me that the fly rod is calling my name.I guess I am getting older and wanting to go back to the traditional ways.Last fall I went back to a longbow for archery hunting and now,I want to go fly fishing.
My father left me a 6' fenwick model#FL72-6 with a scientific angler system 5 reel.
It just seems a little "wippy" to me.
I have no idea what line is on this set up so I will start from scratch.
Thanks for the welcome and all the advice.......
Rich
Sorry should have been sizes 16-18.
