It's Jack's fault
Jack Hise said he needed some hoppers for his fishing class so I started out to tie something a little more durable than the turkey quill wing type I usually use. Somehow that turned into trying to get a workable hopper out of just one strip of foam and a pair of rubber legs. It's now after 3 a.m.. I have several empty beer cans and a bunch of hooks to strip clean in the morning and now I'm going to go back and try just one more time again. IT IS ALL YOUR FAULT JACK! When they haul me off and put me in a padded cell I hope your happy. Oh, I think I can make them work (with just a few more beers).

Rainbowchaser, you do realize that the "padded cell" will be closed cell foam, don't you...

But Jim it's for a worthy cause!!
I just hope they don't have to use a straight jacket, very hard to tie then!!

Old Frat thanks for the link. I used his basic technique to get the all foam hopper I was trying for.

You're very welcome. I've tied several of these. Don't have it mastered yet, but am looking forward to fishing them.
I also saw Charlie tie a new variation of this at a recent tying seminar. I'm really looking forward to when he posts the instructions for that one as it looks even more realistic.
One thing I noticed at the seminar that is not in the posted instructions is that he deliberately puts an upward slope in the tail end when he is gluing them. That makes it even more realistic when you do the razor cut.
I also asked him about the razor and found that the single edged safety razor I was using is nowhere near as think and sharp as the broken half double blade razor he uses in his instructions.
Hope this helps.
Charlie is a great guy and a great tyer.
