I posted a thread in the Fly Swap forum also regarding this, but figured I'd post here too. Would anyone be interested in a swap for flies used to target walleye, white bass, or crappie? Those are kind of our "early season" fish around here... Figured it may be kind of a fun swap. What do you think? If there's enough interest, I will post a sign-up thread and we'll get the ball rolling.

Just tie sparce black Clousers with red krystal flash, and you'll catch fish.
Crappies would be easy...but I've not fished for early season white bass, only late Summer/early Fall whites, and walleyes have still managed to elude my flies. I'm open for suggestions!
So just wondering...for the swap, are you envisioning each person tying one pattern for a particular species (or all species)...or 3 patterns: one pattern each for each separate species?
Dave, it would be just one fly pattern per person. Just like a normal swap. I've never caught a walleye on fly gear either... just figured it would be something to tie for and try.
I've been trying to make a roadrunner imitation for whites. A clouser or other shad copy should work on crappie. I have no idea on walleye.

I've made a roadrunner imitation that has worked on walleyes and bass in the spring. Basically it's bead chain eyed clouser tied on a size 6 jig hook. To tie it you need some size 12 or 14 barrel swivels, some small split rings and some size 00 or 0 gold spinners. Assemble the spinners and put them on the hook first and then try to get them out of the way while you tie a clouser pretty much the normal way. When I reach this stage I try to force the eye of the barrel swivel over the excess hair sticking out in front of the bead chain eyes and tie it in place with wraps of thread. I try for a 90 degree angle between the barrel swivel and shank of the hook but if I don't make it the fish are ok with that. I use superglue to make sure the spinner stays in place. Colors that have worked for me are chartreuse and white and black. I've caught bass on the chartreuse and walleye on black. Hope this helps.

I responded on the swap board, and am in if enough sign up for a go. I would like to try a simple bugger pattern would be a fly fishing version of a simple pattern that a friend who spin fishes highly recommended. This might be a good chance for us to tie some experimental patterns, and have each of us report if a pattern worked well for us.
I am wondering, Zac, if only say 5 us us want to give it a go, if we could tie two patterns each, or something similar, so we would have enough patterns for a swap?
