Advice on line weight
I need some suggestions and/or advice on line weight. I have a 9' three piece bamboo rod that I rebuilt several years ago and have never used. There were no markings on it when I started so I really don't know what to try. The only other rod I have that is 9' is a Fenwick and that is a 7#. If that is sufficient, that would be great but I would really be interested in ideas. Thanks, kev

Most fly shops have demo lines. Take your new toy down there and try a few different lines and see what feels best to you. Rember that with out water to help laod your rod (line stick) you may want to go 1 line lighter than the one that feels best on dry land.

Kev,
Post your query either on the rodbuilders section here, or go to Rodmaker.org and post it there.
There is a method out there that a man named Hanneman (sp?), I think, came up, that will allow you to test the rod under a static load (he uses pennies for the weights...) and determine the proper line weight, or 'close enough'.
I think the article on how to do is archived at the Rodmaker site, maybe here as well.
I know it does work.
Good Luck!
Buddy
