Nice bass...i see you're a fan of automatics too.

the reel is a semi automatic not the old automatic reel of years ago. I used the franco vivarelli goldstar. it is state of the art as far as this type of reel goes. the semi automatics are used by the pros in europe for competition. the goldstar is made from an aluminum block, has a drag adjustment, extractable spools and significant backing. No spring at all.
I've never handled a franco vivarelli, only seen the name a few times and pix. Interesting reel. Thanks for the info.

these are the semi automatic fly reels I own. the reel in the lower is from spain(thinkfish Bold). the two on the right are ATP 37 (aluminum & graphite models). upper left is the goldstar ( a salt & fresh water reel).
i've taken 30' stripers with it. the ATP & vivarelli are from Italy. vivarelli also makes a carbon fiber reel for trout & panfish.

Thanks Bill, even more interesting and i was going to ask if they work how you have now shown in the 'spool out' pic. I see no hand crank so i can see that line retrieval is done strictly with the lever...at least that's how it looks to me. I'll be on the lookout for the ATP upper right in the pic...this appeals to me most of the pix.
Thanks again !
