LaFontaine's Flex Hopper. This jointed pattern has a lot of movement in the water and seems to entice fish that wont eat the traditional patterns.
If I was going all the way to Montana, and I wish I were, I would fish what I have confidence in until I talked to a local in Montana.
I'm heading out to the Bighorn on 7/11. It' my first trip out there & I tied up a bunch of hoppers. I like Dave's hopper & the Hopper Juan. I also tied up some Floppers but I'll probably end up buying a few more from a local shop if none of these are the "Hot Hoppers".
I'd take a few different patterns as the fish will be ur final judge!... But ya can't go wrong with a couple A.K's Hoppers in the mix! Like all A.K. Patterns it's relativily easy to tie, well thought out and durable...
Charlie Boy Hopper http://www.charliesflyboxinc.com/fly...m?parentID=164 , Al's Foam Hopper http://flyanglersonline.com/flytying...ate/part42.php , Wally Wiese's GFA Hopper http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=juofPgOpic4 and John Scott's F.E.B Hopper http://www.flyanglersonline.com/flyt...tw20090810.php

I have read on line somewhere that a decent hopper imitation is a larger deer hair caddis tied on a streamer hook, with a larger head. I havent tried it yet, anybody have an opinion?
Kinda like a Letort Hopper http://www.danica.com/flytier/eshenk/letort_hopper.htm which definitely works
Very similar, thanks. It has a wing instead of hackle, but hackle would probably work. I will try it eventually.
parachute hopper for me.
