Missouri
Ok Folks, I need some info.I go up and visit family in Nixa,Mo. and usually make the short drive south to Taneycomo or north to Bennett Springs for Trout.I'll probably do the same this year but would like to find some streams nearby Nixa to fish for smallmouth.Does anyone have a suggestion?

I asked a very similar question on the Warm Water forum and got some good feedback. Try searching in the Warm Water Forum with the searching words "Springfield MO" using my screen name "BigFlatBrook". You'll see my post and the answers I got.
My question wasn't identical to yours, but it might contain some useful information.
(My sister lives in Springfield and I usually visit her once a year or so.)

Well, must be missing it somewhere. Couldn't find the Post.

You might try the James River.
Try this:

This link has decent, usable maps. The James R. is very close to Nixa. I remember passing over it several times while working for the COOP in the area.
Might see what you can Google up on the James R. as well.

I'd give you a direct link if I knew how to do it. Here's some of the info from that thread that I found useful. Hope you have a good time.
From Biot Midge - "My favorite smallmouth stream is across the Missouri line, Elk River and it's tributaries, Indian Creek, Big Sugar Creek, and Little Sugar Creek."
From MOturkE -- "Is your preference to fish for gills and bass? There's always Crane Creek just south of Sprgfld or Capp's Creek near Monett for trout. I'm planning on trying to get down to Capp's Creek next spring. I gotta try my luck with them NON-wild trouts there."
From crcaddis -- "There is are a lot of WW rivers & creeks to fish near Springfield. The Niangua above Bennett Springs is good, the James, and the Finley are worth a shot too. If you can locate a copy of Chuck Tryon's "200 Missouri Smallmouth Adventures" you'll have plenty of places to explore. Cheers."

I would second the notion for getting Chuck's book "200 Missouri Smallmouth Adventures". He knows what he's talking about and he's fished all over Missouri. He has a book out for Missouri trout as well.

Here is the link to thread mentioned above:

I did find it using the keywords "Springfield MO" and BigFlatBrook as the user in the Warm Water forum. It took me a couple of tries, I forgot to switch to the warmwater forum and the user name is case sensitive. To create a link to the page, once I found it, Right-click in the page and select Create Shortcut. The link will be sent to your desktop. Right-click on the link and copy the URL into your message text. Maybe there is an easier way but this worked for me.

RickB,
Thanks! I got that shortcut trick to work in MSIE. There doesn't seem to be a similar option for Firefox, which is the browswer I normally use. Maybe it's time for me to finally switch over. http://www.flyanglersonline.com/bb/smile.gif

Close to Nixa, you have the Finley River (aka Finley Creek) and the James River. A bit further out...and N up Hwy 65 from SPR...is the Pomme du Terre river. That is a great choice! Up toward Bennett you have the Niangua, with several miles of floatable/wadable combo trout/smallmouth water. The other side of Lebanon, you could fish Little Piney or Roubidoux Creek...also hold both trout and smallies.
Tryon's "200 Missouri Smallmouth Adventures" is an EXCELLENT reference guide. But it can be tough to find a copy. I happen to own an autographed first edition. So you can't borrow mine. LOL

My New Year's resolution is to have more fun...even if YOU don't.
