Tom Nixon patterns
Hi All;
After meeting and watching Ron Knight at SOW BUG tie classic fly rod spinnerbaits, I've started trying to tie them. Just placed an order with Janns Netcraft for the supplies I need.
This got me thinking, do any of you tie/fish any other of the Tom Nixon patterns?
If so, which ones have been successfull for you and for what fish and under what conditions?
Thanks in advance;
Wayne

Hi! Never heard of Tom Nixon. Do have any links to his fly patterns?
-
Wayne,
I tie his Cajun Coachman for my panfish fly box. It is a FOTW on this site.

Alberto

I like unweighted Cajun Coachmans! Bluegills and trout like 'em...

Hi Alberto;
Tom Nixon is considered a pioneer of warmwater flyfishing, published the book "Fly tying and Fly fishing for bass and Panfish." there are three editions of this book.
He has a Fly casting club bearing named after him: Contrband Fly Casters http://cbfc0.tripod.com/index2.htm
They have many of his patterns from one of thier swaps: http://cbfc0.tripod.com/tnswap.htm

I have tied and used Tom's Calciseu Pig Boat for bass, and have done well with it. I have also used his .56%er and done well with it for trout.

wayneb,
Thanks for posting those links... There are a few patterns there that caught my eye!

Hi All,
Like some of the others, I have fished the Calciseu pig boat and the Cajun coachman. I don't fish for bass much, so have only fished a pig boat tied by a friend, and have not fished the coachman a lot though. I like both patterns, carry the coachman, and intend to tie a carry a few of the pig boats, especially a bluegill size version of the boat.

Gandolf

I've tied and fished pigboats and spinnerbaits. For those that haven't seen Ron Knight here's a link to a vid of him: http://www.youtube.com/user/FlyFishV...15/OBddrc9hM-g
