New from Michigan
Before I lurk here much longer it seemed polite to offer an introduction. My name is Mike and I live in Cadillac, MI. I've just recently taken up fly fishing and just in the last couple of weeks have taken up fly tying. The beginning course on this site is wonderful. I've learned a lot by just reading through those lessons and trying each technique.
Well, back to lurking and trying to sponge up as much info as I can.

Mike,
A big welcome to you. I have to warn you that it sounds liked you are hooked big time and there is no cure. http://www.flyanglersonline.com/bb/smile.gif It is really a great sport and tying just makes it that much more fun. Join in on the posting and let us know how you are coming along. If you get down to Tennessee, give me an e-mail and we will go fishing. Welcome again and enjoy yourself. Good bunch of people here and tons of knowledge to share.

Welcome to the Board; we need more Michiganders in here. Don't forget to join us in the Chat Room some free evening and meet some of the boys and girls who like to play with long poles and sharp pointy things.Click on the left menu also on Fish-Ins and note the MI fish-in we are having this August on the Au Sable. Glad you could make it!

Welcome Mike,
Now you'll have to start tying flies too, because the biggest thrill is casting well and hooking a fish on a home tied fly. You sure have lots of water to fish up there.

Welcome aboard! We do need some more Michigan members You're only abut 30 miles from me. I live about 6 miles North of Evart. I've been tying for a couple of years and also build my own rods. We'll have to get togather for a tying sesion.
Where's your favorite spot to fish?
Also, Check out the Michigan Fish-In under Fish-Ins

Welcome!
You've come to a great spot for all kinds of information and the sharing of ideas as well as the passion for the sport, art, and craft of fly fishing.
Of course, I'm infinately jealous... I was born in Cadillac and live nearby on occassion, but I 'd love to see the Pine just for a moment in January (or stop by the Blue Heron for a taste treat on a chilly morning).
Maybe you already know that there is a Pine River Chapter of Trout Unlimited, if you are so inclined? I suspect they have a wealth if collective info about bluegills, bass, pike, etc. and the waters they frequent, too.

Thank you for the warm welcome everyone.
Favorite spots to fish so far: The upper end of the Pine (no ice this year Kathy), the Betsie near Crystal Mountain (Thompsonville) and the White river not far from Hesperia. A friend of mine lives on a cove of Lake Mitchell where he says the bluegills are in thick right after the ice goes out in the spring. That might turn into my favorite early spring fishing spot http://www.flyanglersonline.com/bb/smile.gif
Jack - a tying session sounds like fun. Drop me an e-mail sometime and we'll see if we can work it out.
Mmmm - muffins from the Blue Heron. We get those at work once in awhile during tax season (I'm an accountant). I know one of the partners in our firm is active in TU, but I'm not sure which chapter.
Learning to tie my own leaders is next on the agenda. It would be much nicer to be able to customize the taper rather than just using whatever I can buy. It would also be nice to be able to refresh a tippet that's been cut back a long ways.
