I'm a beginner and im trying to get a new 5 wt. 8' 6" St. Croix rod. i've heard good things about the rod but i would like some feed beck fom other fly fisherman. If any of you have used this rod could you tell me how well you enjoyed using the rod.

I guess I'll fourth it...
Though I'll add that I have a love/hate relationship with my pair of Croix rods.
After messing up my first rod (repairable, but I havent gotten around to it yet), I picked up a St. Croix Reign, 9' 5wt. I really like how it feels and casts, but i dont know what it is with that rod, but out of all the fish I've hooked with it, I've lost over half of them at some point between that first head shake and the net. Frustrating, to say the least. Just today, I had it out throwing a few streamers. Hooked 6 fish, landed 3.
On the other hand, I just got a 7'9" 3 wt. St. Croix Avid a few months ago and there arent words to describe how much I love that rod. Where my Reign will obey my every casting command, the Avid seems to already know what I want to do. Where my other rods seem to throw light flies with too much oomph and wimp out on the heavier end of their spectrums, the Avid shows the backbone to roll waterlogger buggers and the grace to let a #20 dry flutter to the water in its own good time.
I've not used the Triumph, but in either of my cases, St. Croix delivers a quality product and a winning price.

I used to fish and 8 1/2' 5 weight Imperial. I'm sorry I ever got rid of that rod.

I've got an 8'6" 5wt St. Croix Premier. Love the rod! I think the Triumph has replaced the Premier line...and is the SAME as the Premier line, except it is assembled outside of the U.S. I think it is (or was) the only non-U.S. assembled rod that St. Croix sells. The low labor cost allows them to sell these great rods for a very reasonable price.
I've also got an 8wt Premier, which is my favorite carp fly rod.
Plus, I own a handful of St. Croix spinning rods. St. Croix makes excellent rods, period. :D
