I was just wondering if anyone has read:
Fly-Fishing Pressured Water: Tying Tactics For Today's Trout By: Lloyd Gonzales.
If so what do you think of it and is it worth picking up a copy. Thank you for your response ahead of time.

I believe that I mentioned in a previous post that I was a book junkie when it came to fly tying and fly fishing. I have the Gonzales book but have been too busy at work to read it cover to cover. I've broused the book and let me tell you it has absolutely blown me away! The book is cover to cover color which acounts hefty price tag of $49.95 (considerably reduced at Amazon.com).
Pressured Water is definitely not a rehash of old methods and fly patterns. It's full of NEW, highly creative, highly realistic patterns. There's an excellent teaching selection on the methods used to produce these flies. Nymphs like the paper-case crawler and inverted clinger are nothing short of spectacular. The bait-fish section alone is worth the price of the book. The hardhead bottom fish and tailed synthetic school fish have major applications not only for trout but also warmwater and saltwater.
Apparently, the book has been poorly advertized. I bought it "blind" because I liked the title. This book is going to become the Swisher and Richards' "Selective Trout" of the next couple of decades. New flies, new tying methods--it's great. You won't be disappointed if you buy Gonzales' book. Trust me! 8T http://www.flyanglersonline.com/bb/smile.gif

Mantis,
Let me know what you think of the book when you have a chance to look it over. I'm pretty sure that you'll be impressed. 8T http://www.flyanglersonline.com/bb/smile.gif
I got the book and it is a pretty one. I especially like the "bottom fish" and "the school fish".
The other flies, nymphs and dries though are, to be flat out honest, pretty basic realistic fishing flies and I didn't see anything new that many other tyers haven't already done. But that is me, me who reads everything there is on realistic tying, gets emails and pics and letters from tyers all over the world; who is always being sent realistic pages and sites to check out , shown realistic flies at shows on a regular basis by tyers who want to know what I think of them.
So for those of you who have not been into realistics or do not attend a lot of shows, these patterns may seem new and original.
The book though is well put together with decent instructions although for someone attempting this type of tying for the first time it should have included a few more steps here and there and more shots from different angles. It does however put a lot of fishing realistics together under one cover.
If you haven't seen many realistic fishing flies you will be impressed. Check out the fish patterns ! Some of them really impressed me...and these are fishing flies too!
All in all for the average tyer who wants to take a shot at some fishable realistics it is a very nicely done book and I would advise anyone with even a smidgeon of interest in this style of tying to pick it up while it is still in the first printing.
I don't believe I have had the pleasure of meeting Lloyd yet or at least I don't remember doing so. In one of many calls from Chuck Furimsky when we were lining up realistic tyers, (the theme of this year's show), he asked me if I knew someone from Pa. who had written a book on realistic flies. Chuck said this fellow had asked to come to the International FT Symposium. I said I didn't know of anyone and Chuck couldn't remember the name off hand. I hope now it was Lloyd and that he will be coming as I would enjoy meeting him and he would be right at home with the crew I have assembled.
Somewhere else in here I've listed the realistic tyers names who will be tying.
Also, I got my copy through abebooks.com for about ten dollars cheaper than the retail price.
