New Fisher (Hopefully)
My daughter recently asked me about fly fishing, and my "fancy" rod. So I took her out behind the house and let her play around a little bit. Honestly she did better than I did my first time. It was fun, and hopefully I can get her out on the water and catch a fish or two.

She also tied a fly, it was a wooly booger, and she did most of it, practically all of it except for the whip finish. Makes me very happy that she might enjoy something we could do together. I can only stand so much Disney Princesses.

Drew;
Funny how much a little fishing trip or practice can mean to a child. You keep her involved with fishing and she will always have great memories of her dad.

A bum-legged old man and a drunk. That's all you got?
That's WHAT I got.

Drew,
She looks like a natural! The great thing is that you didn't push her, but waited until SHE expressed interest. She's probably hooked now!

The seed is planted. I'd like to recommend anyone who wants to start their child out flyfishing to read either Fly-Fishing with Children: A guide for Parents by Phil Brunquell MD or First Cast: Teaching Kids to Fly-Fish by Phil Genova. I've read both books before I started my daughters out and it helped me navigate through the pitfalls of teaching my children to fly fish. Good-luck on your new adventure!!
