Fishin' Hats
So, ... got the idea from 8T's Question on: http://www.flyanglersonline.com/bb/Forum1/HTML/014786.html[/url:68cd5]
What do you use to cover your head while on the water??
I use a wide brim hat that I treat with wax to make it water proof. Pretty chilly up here usually, ... so protection from wind, bugs, sun and rain is more of a consideration than making shade.
After my girlfriend "appropriated" my 20+ year old Koolah, I found a Canadian made Digger http://www.flyanglersonline.com/bb/smile.gif
Lots of stories come out a hat too: http://www.flyanglersonline.com/features/micus/070504.html[/url:68cd5]

So far thankfully, i use hair.

I have a dark blue wide brimed Tilly Hat , with a wind strap . It has large grommets to ventilate my sawdust .A secret velcrow pocket on the inside for carrying a couple of bucks mad money plus my fishing licence . It does float as I have found out many times .
I have had it for 25 years .
If you wash your fishing hat you wash all the luck away . Dunking accidentally in the lake adds to the luck of the hat . imho

Tilly Style - was off-white (cream) with dark green inner rim - thought I'd give it a go after I ear hooked myself (plus - 1st one I found with dark rim on bottom - much easier on eyes). 1st wash (via ma-nature) churned the colors .. kinda ugly looking now ... goes with its owner ......... wife hates it .... then again, she hates my straw hat too ......... oh well, they keep the sun and hooks outta my head - that's a bonus

Chris;
It saved my user name and password from the last post, making progress!!
I use a wide brim crushable hat. I water proof it with Sno Seal. When warmed up over low heat it turns to the consistancy of varnish. Just paint it on and if it cools to fast get out the hair dryer and melt it in.

I feel more like I do now than I did when I got here!

I wear a ball cap or a wide-brimmed Columbia Bora-Bora hat (light weight synthetic and mesh).

Great tale, ... Loved it !!!
I guess I didn't mind giving up my Koolah, ... seeing as it was my (then new) girlfriend who needed it to come fishing http://www.flyanglersonline.com/bb/smile.gif

I have a cap from the builder who made my rod for me..and i've worn it for three years. I took a lot of ribbing down at the post office because it was pre destressed. "who in their right mind gets a hat that looks old when its new?" Ad three years of mid day sun,(a lot of fishing between split shifts at the post office), and good coats of bug spray to keep them off the dome. Stir in the wife's unrequestted washing. And you have a river run top knob that would make any trout bum smile. Around the fly shop coffee, it is respectfully called..."The Hat". When fishing, I'm naked with out it.
