Morning,
Has anyone used these SA L2L reconnect line end connector kits? Was thinking on trying these ... tying knots have never been my strong point, and thought these might work nicely, plus they act as a strike indicator :)

I've gotten flamed for saying this before, but you'd be better off learning to tie proper knots correctly than relying on a crutch like the L2L
Just my $.02
I do and LOVE them! Make sure you get the ones that can be removed and reconnected with a twist...not all of them do. Some just snap on and you ruin the leader connection trying to take it off. Why they make that I have no idea.
You will hear the "purists" scoff at the idea of using them....but then again they haven't tried them either.
YOu will hear some say they come loose and the connection fails but I have never had one fail with a fish on the line..........ever.
I fish for everything with a fly rod too......trout, bass, crappie, bluegill, catfish.
Caught about a 7lb catfish just this Saturday so I know the connection will hold atleast that strong ;). And If I'm correct it was a 5x leader.
Landed an 18" brown in current this past winter also.
The end of the line is a little easier to see but I wouldn't call it a strike indicator. I just watch the line as a strike indicator anyway.
Give it a try. What do you have to lose? If you don't like it you can always go back to trying to tie a nail knot............................. with cold fingers ;)
point well taken.
I can tie the knots, but the ole` eye sight ain't quiet what it use to be so sometimes these really small lines are a real pain to tie ... fingers aren't quiet as nibble as they use to be either, so sometimes it's nice to use something that makes things easier and quicker so I'm not loose flies and leaders. ;)

I've always gotten mine at Wal-Mart. Now you've got to have a Wal-Mart in an area that has a decent amount of flyfishing however. About the only flyfishing item I've found at Wally World that is worth a hoot.
They certainly don't have them at our local Squander Mtn.
You can order them online at many places I'm sure.
IMO the snap-on type are a waste of time.
I found some on Cabela's site ... just order some :)
the walmart around here doesn't sell any fly fishing gear at all!

They're all over the place, orange not yellow. Awesome leaders. Given my good eyesite (thank you Lord), I don't think they really serve as indicators however, unless the leader is 3-4'.
There are green and red ones also. Yup the yellow ones are the snap-on type.
