When Night fishing....
When night fishing... you never know whats on the other end...
Caught this on a 7wt... with 8lb Maxima line...
some may call it a snagged/foul hooked fish... some may call it a good hook up.
when I got it in the fly was just on the outside of the mouth (less then 2 inches)..
the fly was "in-line" with the mouth..
I believe what happened was the line itself drifted in its mouth and it "twitched" ... Making it feel like a strike.. and setting the hook...

wow
Nice spoon! how long did it take to land it?
And to think I only catch crappie on my 7wt....

I've always wondered if a person could catch one of those things on a fly rod. Now I've got my answer.
The only thing I need to know now is what fly you were using and were you dead drifting it, fishing it on the swing, stripping it or just leaving it up to lady luck.

You gotta do a lot of things right to foul hook a ( you name it ).
Fair hooked or foul, that is one interesting fish.

We refer to the act as "lining" the fish, or "flossing". Especially with salmon hanging on the bottom in current, breathing heavy, the line rolls into the mouth as it swings down past the fish and the fly follows the line into the mouth...
That said, I would sure love to catch a paddlefish!
