Well, good or bad, here it is. Overall, this was an interesting project. I guess it didn't turn out too bad for my first attempt. I learned a lot. Hopefully my next one will be better.

Looks great. Will be interested to hear about your experiments with various line weights at the upcoming show you mentioned. And very interested to hear about its casting qualities after you get the line weight sorted out.

That really is a sweet rod, congratulations. Wooden rods are even more retro than bamboo, thats just way too cool. Let us know how it casts.
Not real sure of the line weight yet. Plan to take it to the Great Waters Flyfishing Expo this weekend and try a few different combinations.Quote:

Just wanted to pipe in to say that this rod IS beautiful, and that it casts a 4wt nicely.

I think I understand your question. The bottom section of the rod tapers to 1/2" in diameter. The grip is a cigar shaped grip reamed out to 1/2" and epoxied to the blank and the reel seat is attached to the blank. The wood you see under the reel seat is the actual blank, not an insert.Quote:
