Fishing Near Tallahassee
Well, I'm back.
I haven't been on here in a looooong time. I'm going to be going to be going to college at FSU, in Tallahassee, Florida. (whooho!!) So I will have a bit of a change from fishing up here in Vermont! (I joined this site in middle school :P)
Anyways, I was wondering, do any of you know of any places, in that general area, where I could get some saltwater action? I know it will be a bit of a drive due to it not actually being on the water, but in the general area.
I'm up for anything, flats, regular shore fishing, boats, what ever. I'm going down in a few weeks to visit and I want to get some fishing in :)
-Thanks for any help.

I can't give you a lot of specifics, but you are close to some very good fishing in the Appalachicola Bay/St. George area and Carrabelle. Here is a link to a board that covers that area.

My suggestion is to get a kayak. That is perfect water for paddlefishing.

The area from Dog Island to Port St Joe is great. A canoe or Kayak is ideal. Route 319 runs along the coast. There are numerous places where you can pull off the road, slip in a kayak and fish the area between the mainland and the islands.
What ever you do, stay away from Steinhatchee, there aren't any fish there. The only thing you'll find is loose women who want to take your money. A young collge buck like yourself is prime pickings.

Don't overlook the great largemouth bass fishing in the area. I went to FSU in 1970 to attend school and enjoyed the best bass fishing of my life in the shallow lakes that abound in N. Fla. near Tallahassee. My first and second bass over 10 pounds came from the then famous Lake Jackson that was just a short drive from campus.
The salt water is not that far and as has been mentioned, there may still be many places for quick access--I say "may be" because I haven't been back to fish the area in 35 years and I probably wouldn't recognize it at this time.
