I am getting the chance to flyfish NE Utah around Altamont in mid-May and would appreciate any tips/hints. This is the first time I get to go somewhere just to fish! No family visits, errands, etc!!

Not sure how flexible you are, but I would drive 2 hours northeast of Altamont (96 miles) to Dutch John, UT and fish the Green River. There are several fly shops in that area that offer great guided float trips. The fishing is super. There are also some areas to wade.
You also have Falcon's Ledge right there in ALTAMONT. A little scratch to stay, but fantastic rooms and food. There are several on premises lakes full of trophy trout, not to mention River access to several different rivers. Check it out on line. Shelly is the gal to talk to.
But the Green is an excellent choice also.
Spent many a days up there fishing them there parts.
Thanks, I'd heard of Falconsledge. Will check it out. Would prefer to wade but I understand the snowmelt that time of year is not conducive to river fishing???
Hurly, being from close by, spring can be interesting, but look for streams, just below dams, reservoirs, etc. Water may be a little high in some places but fishing is usually great. If you have one, tubeing on some of the lakes, impoundmants, etc. can be very productive that time of the season. I have not fished the Green below Flaming Gorge for several years however know people who do all year long. GOOG LUCK and tight lines.
Let us know when you get more info about dates and who knows, it might fall around some days off, I might even try to join you if possible,
I'll bet flygoddess would love an excuse to get on the water.
