mixing finishes
I just finished getting all the old finish off of my bamboo, and put 6 coats of tru-oil on it - nice stuff, very easy to use. I would like to put a coat of urethane on top of the wraps after I finish them, but would it adhere to the tru-oil? Any other drawbacks to this approach?

Re: mixing finishes
Hello herefishy, my wife that refinishes furniture says that urethane won't stick to tru-oil. I'm hoping someone will chime in with something you can use on the wraps at this point as I like the idea of using tru-oil on the cane too. As an aside, I really enjoy the FLO 456 so thanks again !

Re: mixing finishes
This is probably a case where some testing is in order. I'm not sure what you buy with an additional top coat over Tru oil. But if you want one, I'd probably throw a wrap on a piece of old rod or dowel and do some testing. To help adhesion, I would also skuff the Tru oil before adding a top coat.

Re: mixing finishes
You can pick up a bottle of Perma-Gloss from most any rodbuilding supply that will work with the Tru-Oil finish.

Re: mixing finishes
Hello deleo, I like the sound of the Perma-Gloss and I'm wondering if that's the product that glass rod rebuilders use for a whole new finish and I'm also wondering what the Perma-Gloss consists of please.
