Yes, you are right on! That graphic is pure awesomeness.
I stoped chucking and ducking after I converted to swinging flies on the sinkage tipps. Only way to go imo.
Thats a good graphic to illustrate sink rates, however a lot more enters into it.
The depth of the fly does not rely on the sink rate alone as the graphic suggests.
You have to determine the depth of your fly by ;
1. The sink rate of your line
2. The speed of your retrieve
3. The length of time you let it sink before starting Your retrieve. ( Stillwaters )
4. The speed of the current ( Streams )
A #II sink rated line can be fished at any depth off the bottom it just takes a longer sink time before you start a retrieve.
A #VII sink rate will get there a whole lot faster.
That's the one I use to determine which type of sinking line to use or buy when I lake fish in the Sierras. Very helpful as it gives you a visual representation.
