Who has an idea how to make an arbor for my FlyLogic FLP 890 reel? I will never use that enormous capacity, but I really like the reel. I remember in the 60's we put store-bought cork arbors on some of our casting reels. Thanks.

I would think the easiest way to fill the extra space would be to use extra backing. You could simply put on as much #30 backing to the desired fill point, and tie it off. Then add #20 (or whatever pound test you want) backing over the top of that like the #30 wasnt even there, so you dont have a gazzillion feet of backing.
You could also buy some sheets of cork, cut a bunch of circles out of it so that they will fit as desired, then laminate them to get the width required. Cut the circles so that you can slip them over the arbor of the real, then sand them to get a good fit and a smooth surface. A little more complicated, but would look better than gobs of backing.
I would be willing to bet that there is a commercial product made just for this job.
I cant wait to see other suggestions, as there have been some pretty creative ideas for this kind of "field engineering".
Have fun, Jeff

Plain old store string it bulky and lite did all the time way back when it works great

or some large diameter inexpensive braided dacron regular fishing line from some place like Wal-Mart.....in fact I've been using ...50#

If you end up using some type of string as backing, don't use cotton as it will rot when wet. Think synthetic.
Don't know if this will work, but try contacting FlyLogic to see if they sell small arbor spools for another reel that will fit the reel and use the same locking mechanism. It will cost you the expense of one e-mail.
