It really is quite dependent on your level of knowledge of components, your choice of brands AND your location. Anglers Workshop would be one good choice in your area - ask for Jim.

For the first time builder I recommend Hook & Hackle www.hookhack.com , as they put together some nice, affordable kits to get started with. Their kits have EVERYTHING you need to build a nice rod. I have also bought from Dan Craft, Mudhole, Cabelas and a couple of others.

I have to second Angler's Workshop. They're not far from you and Dave will answer all your questions and fix you up with just the right things you'll need.

I have used Hook and Hackle, Mudhole, Dan Craft, Shoff Tackle and Custom Tackle. Hook and Hackle had good prices, but the service is real spotty. Custom Tackle has great service, but is sort of pricey. Same with Shoff Tackle. My favorites are Mudhole and Dan Craft. Check both sites periodically for specials. I have particularly gotten some good deals at Mudhole.
Also check out Rodbuilding.org for links to suppliers and great info.
harley,
Cabela's also has good kits for a good price. Try the store in Boise and see if they don't have some on hand. If they don't keep them in the store, they have a lot on line. Regards....
I've used Hook and Hackle, Schneiders, Dan Craft, and Utmost Enterprises. All of them were fine. Bingham Enterprises was also good. I would probably give you a more difinitive answer if I knew what brand of blank you were after.
thanks everyone I am planning on building spinning rods and fly rods. The brand name does not matter at first just really inexpensive (cheap) LOL. Most of the spinning rods are to be ultr lights. kinda hard to find
Anglers Workshop will definitely fit the bill - they have a HUGE lineup of fly blanks, reels, lines, etc. AND they do carry Rainshadow/Forecast which will give you access to the largest lineup of ultralight spinning blanks.
