Canadian Loonie warning to fellow Canucks
Yahoo! the Canadian dollar is finally worth something again. It hit 95cents US this week.
However some stores, mostly the bigger chains, have still got the US prices and the Canadian prices changed over on their tags. So a book for example could have a price of $4.00 US/$6.95Cdn. At the current exchange rate if you paid for it in Canadian funds you would be ripped off as it should cost $4.20Cdn. a difference of $2.75.
Retailers have been very slow in changing to a more realistic rate.
The solution I found was to go to the bank, change my Loonies to US currentcy then buy the product with the US greenbacks. I saved $38.97 doing this when I purchased my new lawnmower.
Just a word to the wise till they finally get on the ball.

GBF,
Your the smartest person on this BB!! How did you figure all that out??
Doug
Re: Canadian Loonie warning to fellow Canucks
Good plan Gnu Bee Flyer.
Most of the chains do their buying at least 6 months or so before the goods hit the shelves, and their retail pricing is worked out at that time. Same with conversion to Canadian $. Then they have to get price stickers printed, etc. and so on. What you see is the reflection of the Canadian $ when the goods were ordered.
It annoys me to see this too, but your solution is a good one.

I cant help but think that you may put a large part of the blame for this on NAFTA. I have disagreed with the program since it hit the drawing board .
The only people to have benefitted from it are the very wealthy in the U,S, Canada and Mexico. It has never been a benefit to the common man.Contact you local political representative and raise cain.

Nah, Nah you all got it wrong. It's those Frenchies in Quebec that think all Canada aughta be trading in French Frans's. Finally settled that once and for all.

Isn't the french franc gone for good? It's the euro now, which still kicks the dollars butt.
But wasn't the US dollar king 8 years ago?
