Michigan Fish-In Self Help(sort of) Fly Tying Clinic
On Monday evening 2 July in the Board room at Gates we will be having the First (and maybe last) FAOL Fly Tying Clinic. I will be showing different type of Parachutes and using Al Beatty's tie off method. I am by NO MEANS an "eggspert"!
Now for the "HARD Part we need some other Volunteer "Show and Tellers" otherwise this is going to be a very short session, and we will de-generate into nothing but a "BS" session and we really don't want that to happen now do we?
So give a holler, personally I would like to learn how to "spin" deer hair.
HOW ABOUT IT!

Re: Michigan Fish-In Self Help(sort of) Fly Tying Clinic
I will be bringing my travel tying kit, and will be tying a few "Michigan" patterns like the Robert's Drake (this week's Fly of the Week) and the Zoo Cougar. With hatches coming off early and late in the day (not to mention at midnight as well for the Hex), perhaps a mid-afternoon tying session would be appropriate. I'm getting in on Sunday afternoon, so let me know what works. I'm bringing my canoe and plan on making a few float trips during the week, but certainly NOT on July 4th. Way too much boat traffic on that day.
Here's a picture I posted some time ago of a gift box of Michigan flies I tied for a Christmas fly exchange at my local club.

Sounds good to me also. I think afternoons will be good. I am always up for a little help in the tying department.
I will have the furled leadre board also...we can spin up a few if anyone is interested.

Bill,
I'd be happy to tie a few of the old Michigan patterns, if you have some room.

Re: Michigan Fish-In Self Help(sort of) Fly Tying Clinic
Speaking of tying and flies. :? I'm crossing the border and to date have not tested the waters with customs regarding tying materials or flies for that matter. Let's say it's been easy to skirt the issue until now. Has anyone any personal experiences to share or suggestions. JC / Ladyfisher?? I don't want to get held up nor loose my fly boxes if they decide to go have a look at my gear. I cross the border several times a year but usually just to see my mother and any fly gear, I try not to get into that sort of detail with the officers, but there are usually assorted fly boxes in with some of my stuff.
