My family and I are planning a trip to northern CA the last week of June and first week of July. We are going up the coast to Fort Bragg for a few days then up to Cressent City for a few days then over to the Lake Shasta area probably staying in the Redding area. I am interested in your advice on fly fishing opportunities in those areas that I can do without a guide. Any information I can get would be apprecieated.
It is slightly dependent upon runoff, but you drive past, or along, a whole lot of fishable water there. I am much more familiar with the end of your trip than the beginning, but in Redding the lower Sacramento fishes well. Public access near the Sundial Bridge or at a couple other places is easy. Ask at The Fly Shop in Redding. The Trinity west of Redding may be lowe enough for some good fishing, right near Lewiston. The upper Sac north of Redding is a fun place to fish.

I hear there is some respectable Steelhead fishing up that way somewhere. I'd be trying to find out exactly where. Good luck!
