tip top sizing chart
Hi group.
I'm getting new top blank for one of my rods, I'm taking the guides from the broken one and putting them on the new one.
I have them all, except the tip top. I don't know which size to order.
Can anyone give me a list of which tip top goes to which diameter of the rod end?
Any other size-charts regarding rod building are also appreciated.
Regards,
Thorarinn.

Re: tip top sizing chart
Do you have a set of dial calipers that you can measure it with? If not, try this chart:

Re: tip top sizing chart
The manufacturer of the rod blank ususally has the specs on the size of the tip top for the rod. My experience has been that a blank may vary somewhat at the tip and be a slight bit larger than the specs. The best way is to have the person you are buying the rod or rod top section from select a tip top that fits.

Re: tip top sizing chart
I agree with Bob but in case they fail to do that, use a dial caliper or a micrometer and measure the thickness of the rod tip and multiply it by 64 to find the correct size of tip top needed. If it should come out (as it often does) to a number like 4.595, then you would be looking at using a size 5.0 tip top which is 5/64ths....(.078").
Most everyone that sells tip tops use the 64ths scale for them....

Re: tip top sizing chart
Thank you guys.
I printed out the chart that ol' blue mentioned.
I measured the diameter and calulated according to dleo6446 method (always fun to know how things are calculated).
And I've got the same results 4 :)
Thank you all,
