What a tough day!
I fished the Gallatin yesterday with my younger brother. It was a nice day, in the mid 60's and the water was still quite low with good visibility. We caught a fair number of small rainbows, and towards the end of the day, I got snagged on something. I barely lifted up the rod tip, and snap the tip broke just above the male ferrule. The rod was a HI princess I had just refinished. I sat down a rock to grieve my loss, when my brother stumbled over. As he ambled over to me, he dislodged some rocks, which proceded to fall on top of the butt section of the rod, and break the cork. Not only this, but one of the rocks hit the downlocking reelseat, and pinned my reel. What a tough day.

Bad luck comes in threes, so it should be over. The river gods get their dues.

Wow man, that sounds like a crappy day indeed. I defintely feel for ya. I wish I could offer some uplifting words, but maybe someone else can. Sorry dude.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune. Not a good day.
The good new from my standpoint however is that you were out fishing in a beautiful state and you caught some fish.

To look on the bright side, it happened at the end of the day and now you have good reason to buy the new rod you've always wanted guilt free.

Hey Kevin,
A truly rough day indeed! What's left of that HI Princess may now be a good canidate for being made into an even shorter rod.
On second thought, it sounds as if Mother Nature was hell bent on reclaiming one of her own, and maybe you should leave well enough alone.
Sorry to hear about your very tough day, know that there will be better days on the river than this one, fish on!

I guess that's what insurance would call...totaled...sorry

RMB,
Unfortunate, but the rod can be replaced. You & your brother built another memory by sharing a day together. There will be far better days ahead.
