Anyone know this Book?

I've seen this book on Amazon at what looks like a very reasonable price - The Orvis Guide To Reading Trout Streams - by Tom Rosenbauer.
Does anyone have an opinion on it?

My opinion? This book is a wise addition to the angler's library. Rosenbauer discusses trout lies in all types of moving water: large and small, fast and slow, you name it. He relates some personal experiences with various streams throughout the book. I think it's the best, most understandable text on the subject available.

As a note, I also think highly of his Orvis Guide to Prospecting for Trout.

I've read it, but don't own it. I didn't think it added much to the info he previously published in the Orvis Guide to Fly Fishing. Donald, I have you pegged as an experienced fly fisher and, if tht's right, I don't think you'll learn much new from this book.

Not saying it is a bad book. Just saying it seems to be aimed more at a beginner.

A genetic weakness, going for a bargain for the sake of it. I'll stick to fly tying books, but it does pay to have a look at what is available on Amazon, i.e. Roger Fogg's book on North Country Trout flies is still available on Amazon UK.

When buying another fly fishing book from Half.com, it suggested this book to me upon check out (I know, I know, they do that for the suckers). But it was only $4, so I bought it. If you have no opposition to getting something slightly used, always check half.com because you can get some serious deals. I agree that its not a book for the experienced fisherman. It helped me out a lot though by pulling together a lot of information I had picked up over the years.

I have the Rosenbauer book and it is good. Better IMHO is "Tactics on Trout" by Ovington. Now out of print but it can be found at used booksellers.

Got it, like it fine, haven't opened it in years.

To tell the truth though, I don't learn very well from books, and really just buy them to occupy my mind when it is too cold to fish. I do recall that I found most of his advice to be pretty self-evident. Still, it wasn't that bad, you just probably won't learn very much.

verdict:
Buy it if you find it in the bargain bin. Otherwise, buy some hooks or feathers or beers.
