Everything I've read says to put a little parafin wax on the ferrule of your rod to prevent it getting stuck. However, that's always referred to the aluminium ferrules.
My Reddington Wayfarer is all carbon. Should I do the same thing, or is carbon ok on it's own.

Orvis booklet says to use wax and Winston says wax is fine to use but clean it off and rewax every so often.

I agree with Roy C! I have a little one weight that I thought had a bad ferrule. I waxed it with bee's wax several years ago and havn't had any trouble since. I'll take the above advice though and clean it off and reapply this year.

Some think you should use parafin, some say you shouldn't because it attracts dirt so easily and then that can damage your ferrule. I have never used anything and gotten along ok. I have some friends who use a product called U-40 ferrule lube and swear by it, not at it. http://www.flyanglersonline.com/bb/smile.gif They are former parafin users. I am in neither camp. PS-breakup has hit us early this year. It's 55 degrees just north of Anchorage and I'm a happy camper, thinking the ice may go off soon and fishing will once again become a reality. yahoo.

I use wax before each use, wipe it off after I break down the rod and reapply before each use. Carbon on carbon will wear out over time. Its best to protect the carbon.
I thought that was a joke and then I went to the web page and there really is a product specifically for lubing the ferrule on a fly rod. Order now and get a free jar of fly rod cork cleaner!
