Orange spot
Attachment 12272Caught this little gem out of a small creek on a size 18 midge larva. Only caught a dozen or so of these in my life, so it's always a treat when I do. I catch a lot of hell from my wife, brother, and my friends for fishing for little fish. I say, who cares how big they are when they look like this?

Very nice.Looks like something out of an aquarium.

Beautiful! There are some of those around here, but I haven't caught one in many years, and none on a fly rod yet. Good job by you! :)

Wow! The colors on that fish are amazing! Thank you for sharing!

I catch those down on the creek by my house. You seem to only catch them in the creek or at least very few seem to be in ponds. Wonder why that is? They are the prettiest sunfish by far. Can't find a good pic of one in my collection. Nice share, thanks.

Thanks guys. I've only caught them in creeks as well. The creek where that little guy was caught also holds some surprisingly large bass. Had what I figure was a 4 1/2 or 5 pounder break me off one day. Went back better prepared and caught about ten from 2-4 pounds, which is pretty unheard of around these parts. Attachment 12276

Love that orange spot! And wow on the bass..... that's a small small creek for that big of a bass!
-
Ain't nothing wrong with that bass! Sounds kind of like my creek. What else do you find in there?
-
It's absolutely loaded with green sunfish, bluegill, and hybrids of the two. Lots of 10-12 inch bass, with some larger ones as I mentioned. I've caught a few channel cats, one was about 4 pounds. Seen some monstrous carp but only caught a small one, next time I head there I think I will try for the big carp. Also caught a few large creek chubs and one small white crappie. That's pretty much the whole list of species available in my little corner of Nebraska, which I never really thought about until now.

What a beautiful little fish. You gotta love sunfish, beautiful colors, terrific fight, fun to catch and they taste great if you're in the mood for some fresh fish. Thanks for sharing. Jim Smith
