Photo Hosting and Posting
I know there have been several threads on "How To's" for posting pics. I think I got a handle on that. My question is, what site do most of you use to host your photos? I'm looking for one that will allow my to post my photos here without linking to other photos or the other website. I've seen a lot of photos like this lately and I now hate the one I use. I use Webshots.com, but any time I post a picture, instead of a full size image, it shows only a thumbnail and you have to click on it to see the full size which is basically just a link to webshots.
I see a lot of people post links to pics on photobucket. I'm not hoping to post links, just the image. Thanks!
Re: Photo Hosting and Posting
you can do any of the above from Photobucket, depends on if you have many pictures (slow for people with dial-up to open) or one picture etc.
try playing with photobucket if your not happy with what your using

Re: Photo Hosting and Posting
I'll second the Photobucket site. Easy enough that even I can do it!
Re: Photo Hosting and Posting
Yep! I've been using photobucket for years. If you give them a contribution you can store a lot more photos too. Plus some other perks, but I forgot what they were now. :?
Re: Photo Hosting and Posting
I use tinypic Its kinda quick and you don't have to register.

Why is that a problem???
I think posting the link is better for two reasons.........................
1. It takes up less space on this site
2. Viewers have the choice to view it or not

Just personal preference. As a viewer of other people's stuff I'd rather just see the full size image right there in the message. Especially if its a TR or story or something. Take the recent trip report from the Au Sable. If those photos were just links, it just wouldn't look quite so good, ya know.
Re: Photo Hosting and Posting
I'm not sure how that works. You can't post a picture on this forum directly. That would take up too much bandwidth. When you post a picture here it's being hosted by photbucket or whatever you use. How much bandwidth is it using here compared to a link?
Re: Photo Hosting and Posting
Here are the reasons some web sites do not want to post your pictures directly.
1. Most important is the storage space. Sites like FAOL do not have unlimited storage space (which by the way costs money). Text or HTML takes very little space to store pictures a lot. Picture is worth thousand words is wron here. More like 50 000 words.
2. For those connecting to the internet via dial up loading picture heavy pages takes a while and in general does not create a good expitirence.
I do not belive that this is a case here since embedding a ling into your post will in fact load the picture.
Some sites like Photobucket were designed specifically to store images - they have a lot of disk space and are for the most part supported by adds. There is almost nothing of value for free in this world.
Re: Photo Hosting and Posting
Thanks guys. I undestand the space issue with hosting images here. I wasn't asking for a way to store my photos here. I was asking for a good site to host my images, so that I can put the direct link in a post here and have the full image show in the message vs. this: [url=http://outdoors.webshots.com/photo/2578767260101442662vyXqcR:71051]http://thumb2.webshots.net/t/55/455/...2vyXqcR_th.jpg[/url:71051]
where you have to click the tiny thumbnail
or this: http://thumb2.webshots.net/t/55/455/7/6 ... qcR_th.jpg
where it is just the web address.
