Anyone ever use the house brand hooks from The Fly Shop? In particular I'm looking at the curved-shank nymph 2305 - similar to the Dai Riki 280 but in larger sizes(#1/0-4), for tying Assassins, Spankers and such.

Scott

Have quite a few of the smaller 2305s and like them fine, but don't target big fish to know their strength. I don't know what relation these might have to the old Targus brand, but they were also called 2305 and carried by TFS.
I use them and like them, very sharp. Small barb is easy to flatten also.
The 2305's are fine in the larger sizes. I use mostly 2-4 and have not had a problem with large fish. The smaller sizes, however, are absolute garbage. Would not trust any of these hooks below size 8.
Overall this is true of most of the Fly Shop's hooks I've tried. The steelhead hooks for example are good and cheap, but the trout hooks are complete junk. I have not tried their saltwater nor jig hooks, so cannot comment on those.
Thanks everyone, I trust your opinions; I'll order some of the bigger hooks and see how they work. Wish I had stopped in the shop when we drove through Redding back in October; would have saved a bit on shipping.

Scott
Scott, you might check into Allen Flyfishing hooks. I've only seen good reports...the prices are said to be excellent and shipping is free.
duckster,
I did; they don't have that particular style in the larger sizes I'm looking for. They only go up to a #6, like the Dai Riki 280.
