I have a 8 1/2 ft South Bend HDH. I converted it to a 6 1/2 rod and now I want it back to original. Alas! I didn't record the original guide spacing. Can anyone help me? Also, a"D" weight is a modern ? weight line? THANKS IN ADVANCE.

It's nominally equivalent to a modern 6 weight, although with the way line weights have crept up, it may very well cast better with a 5. And with South Bend especially, two of the same model rod, both marked HDH, may take two different line weights.
Oh, and South Bend has a reputation of inconsistent guide spacing between two rods of the same model.
THANKS Bob, I'm sure I can come up with workable
guide spacing. Just wanted to keep it as original as possible. Your comments
about inconsistent spacing by the makers relieves my concern about any liberties I may take.
Might want to seek advice from the folks over at theclassicflyrodforum. It's mostly bamboo.
