Macro mode on your cam right? use that and maybe a stand to keep it all still.

Appears to be a Union Hardware rod or a trade rod from that period like perhaps from South bend I don't believe it's impregnated but it is varnished and has probably been polished. Not an expensive rod but if it cast good for you and the ferrule fit is good you'll enjoy, I'd try it with a 6 wt.

Try a tripod and use the self-timer on your camera so you are not touching the camera a all.
It will make a world of difference in the sharpness of your images.
Also the Macro mode for close-ups.
