Griffith Gnat
I find myself with some small white hackles suitable for tying a size16-18 fly.
Decided I would look at the Griffith Gnat. A quick check on Google shows all of the gnats tied with grizzly hackle.
My questions are: Has anybody tried this pattern with white hackle in lieu of grizzly?
Comments?
Thanks - Tim

I've always used grizzly. Those would tie up some nice renegades though.

i have tied it with different body materials but not with a white hackle.
tie a few up and do some testing. :D

Never tied a griffith's gnat with white instead of grizzly, but, you could tie up some small renegades.

I use whatever is handy
the fish don't care...

I never saw a fish wearing color corrective lenses!! Have at it.
I tie them in 18's and a few 20's...and use whatever tiny "scrap" I have left...even total black

Thanks for the responses. After I posted I did some more research & found this which pretty well answers my questions.

Tye up some "Skippers"! Use a white fine dubbing and palmer in the hackle ... just like an albino griffiths gnat.

Tied with black hackle in a larger size it imitates a house fly. It works!

I tie several variations of the Griffiths Gnat, including going up as far as size 8 and subbing ostrich for peacock. They work and they are fun to tye. I'm not totally sure they can rightfully be called 'Griffiths Gnats' or not, I don't guess I worry tht much about it.
