British method of folding barred woodduck feather?

I am trying to tie one of the classic wet flies - the tomah joe. The instructions are vague and make reference to using the "British method of folding a woodduck feather. I have gone through a couple of my reference books and can not find instructions for this method. I would appreciate any and all help I can get.
